Hammerhead Fitness WNY CrossFit Challenge Series
http://hammerheadfitness.com/wny-hammerhead-challenge/
Round 1 - January 14th at CrossFit Rochester.
Round 2 - January 28th at CrossFit Buffalo
Round 3 - February 11th at CrossFit DeWitt.

In the spirit of the CrossFit Games, three gyms (CF Rochester, CF Buffalo, CF DeWitt) have come together to create a winter gaming series.  The Hammerhead Fitness WNY CrossFit Challenge Series is an opportunity for athletes in Western NY to get together and compete - CrossFit style.  At each round of the series, athletes / teams will earn points towards a series championship and prizes.  Each of the host gyms will be independently developing their own WODs so there’s no telling how the athlete’s might be tested.  Limited time, space and equipment means there will be a limited number of entries – so be sure to sign up quickly.  Online registration will be open for the:

Rochester Event and Complete Series – January 2nd-12th
Buffalo Event -  January 18th-26th
DeWitt Event – January 30th- February 9th

Watch for individual event schedules to be posted on each host gym’s website when sign up for their event opens up.

Individual Competition
Div I – Unscaled:  This division is for folks that regularly perform CrossFit WODs un-scaled.  These athletes should be performance leaders in their gyms and reasonably proficient in common CrossFit tasks such as chest-to-bar pull ups, 275/185# deadlifts, double unders, etc.  If you scale Fran or Grace – consider Div II.

Div II – Scaled:  This division is for athletes that are still working towards a level of Rx-ing everything - most folks belong here.  While anyone with a reasonable level of fitness should be able to complete these workouts, it is recommended that competitors have a good level of technical proficiency in regular CrossFit movements…  ie;  you can do a legitimate pushup, jump to 24/20” box, overhead squat a moderate load, etc.

Individual Competitor Cost:  Single Event $30 - Three Events $75

Team Competition
For those that would feel more comfortable or better enjoy working on a team, you need to find three teammates!  Teams will be comprised of two men and two women.  As a team, you should feel confident in tackling anything the event promoters throw your way.

Team Cost - Single Event $60, Three Events $150

Hammerhead CNY CrossFit Challenge

A portion of the proceeds from the Hammerhead WNY Crossfit Challenge on Febuary 11th will go to Big Brother Big Sister. This event will be held at Crossfit Dewitt. Please read the following passage to learn more about BBBS. Any additional donations will be deeply appreciated. BBBS is always in need of mentors. Big Brothers Big Sisters in Our Community
In Central New York, P.E.A.C.E., Inc. Big Brothers Big Sisters has been matching children with mentors since 1980. That first year, 8 children were matched with a Big Brother or Sister, and we’ve been growing ever since. We really STARTED SOMETHING!
Big Brothers Big Sisters has been helping change kids’ perspectives and giving them the opportunity to reach their potential for over a century. And we have over a century of volunteers, donors, and advocates who have helped make that happen.
It all started in 1904, when a young New York City court clerk named Ernest Coulter was seeing more and more boys come through his courtroom. He recognized that caring adults could help many of these kids stay out of trouble, and he set out to find volunteers. That marked the beginning of the Big Brother movement.
At around the same time, the members of a group called Ladies of Charity were befriending girls who had come through the New York Children’s Court. That group would later become Catholic Big Sisters.
Both groups continued to work independently until 1977, when Big Brothers Association and Big Sisters International joined forces and became Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
More than 100 years later, Big Brothers Big Sisters remains true to our founders’ vision of bringing caring role models into the lives of children. Today, Big Brothers Big Sisters currently operates in all 50 states – and in 12 countries around the world.
Here in Central New York, our programs include:
Traditional, or community-based mentoring matches a child between the ages of 6-12 with an adult Big Brother or Sister for one-to-one relationship that provides friendship, builds trust, and can change a child’s perspective of the world and his or her future in it.
During 2010, CNY community-based Big Brothers and Big Sisters devoted 9,640 hours mentoring 144 Littles, making a difference in their lives and our community.
School-based mentors, college and high school students who mentor elementary Littles throughout the school year, are another important part of our local Big Brothers Big Sisters. During the 2009-2010 school year, 270 youth Big mentors served 236 school-based Littles in Onondaga and Oswego counties. These students gave 2,169.5 hours of their time in after-school programs, helping their Littles with homework, playing games, crafting, going on field trips, and much more!
If you’d like to know more about mentoring in one of our programs, call 470-3369 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). We’d love to have you join us!
